Chen Tongxun graduated from the stage art department of Shanghai Theater Academy. Now he is a national senior fashion designer.

In terms of film, before he co worked with Johnwoo, he had close cooperation with Kaige Chen - from "Wuji" to "Mei Lanfang", "orphan of Zhao" and "Taoist downhill".

Mei Lanfang let Chen Tongxun win the best design award of the Taiwan Film Golden Horse Award. The age of Taiping wheel is a little similar to that of Mei Lanfang.

In October 2011, Johnwoo contacted Chen Tongxun and invited him to be the stylist of the new film.

In the three years since then, Chen Tongxun has been designing and shaping the characters in the "Taiping wheel".

"This is probably the most expensive movie I've ever spent."

Chen Tongxun regrets that Johnwoo has given him great freedom of creation. "In a relatively realistic style, it depicts the life and love of all sentient beings in the war, which is almost all the creative requirements of the director."

Chen Tongxun decided to use expressionist techniques to shape characters.

Many of the characters in Taiping wheel are based on clothing at that time.
