EU Standard: Germany Tan Tan OEKO-TEX Certification Ensures Consumer Safety

The EU attaches great importance to the rights and interests of consumers, and formulating strict consumer protection policies to ensure the safety of all products sold within the EU and to protect consumers' rights properly. In recent years, more efforts have been made to strengthen consumer product safety supervision. Related inspection reports show that products from floss toys, plastic toys to clothing are burnt out every year because they do not comply with EU safety standards.

In order to effectively implement the consumer protection policy, the European Union has established a series of rapid early warning systems in recent years, including the non food consumer goods early warning system (RAPEX), which can quickly exchange information on non food dangerous goods that pose risks to consumers' health and safety between the EU / European Economic area member states and the European Commission.

In 2018, the European consumer protection agency received 2200 reports on products that might jeopardize consumer health. Toys and cars were listed on the list of dangerous goods, of which 10% were related to clothing, textiles and accessories. As early as 1992, the international environmental protection textile association OEKO-TEX focused on the safety of textiles. It has always been guided by the current market development, and has established the OEKO-TEX certification and certification system and constantly updated and perfected its standards. In the past 27 years, the strategy of OEKO-TEX is not to wait for legislation, but to take an active role in the field of consumer protection to help enterprises in the textile supply chain make responsible decisions.

As a joint founder of the OEKO-TEX Association, Germany has participated in the formulation of the OEKO-TEX certification system testing standard. The testing standard of OEKO-TEX certification includes a wide range of test parameters. The core is based on scientific criteria for testing standards, limit values and detection methods. In many cases, it is more stringent than the applicable national and international standards. This also makes OEKO-TEX certification a recognized authoritative position in the global textile industry.

STANDARD100byOEKO-TEX is a universal independent certification system.
