West Africa'S Cotton Output And Export Increase

According to the report issued by the US agricultural counsellor, the cotton planting area in Senegal, Burkina Faso and Mali in 2019/20 was 1 million 400 thousand hectares, an increase of 1.5% compared with the same period last year. Cotton production is estimated to be 2 million 470 thousand packs, an increase of 14.8% over the same period last year, and the export volume is expected to be 2 million 420 thousand packs, up 15.1% over the same period last year.

In 2018/19, the area and output of cotton planting in Senegal, Burkina Faso and Mali were 1 million 380 thousand hectares and 2 million 150 thousand packages, down 12.6% and 18.5%, respectively.

In 2019/20, the cotton planting area in Senegal was 17 thousand hectares, a decrease of 19.1% compared with the same period last year, and the output and export were 26 thousand packs. Burkina Faso cotton planting area of 605 thousand hectares, a decrease of 4% over the same period, cotton output of 950 thousand packs, an increase of 11.8%, export volume of 925 thousand packs, an increase of 12.1%. Mali cotton planting area of 775 thousand hectares, an increase of 6.9% over the same period, output of 1 million 490 thousand packs, an increase of 17.3%, export volume of 1 million 465 thousand packs, an increase of 17.7%.
