According to a recent statement by some senior officials of the Russian Ministry of industry and trade, the Russian government plans to allocate up to 250 million US dollars for the design and production of nonwoven and technical textiles in the coming years in order to meet the needs of the Russian army.

Production will start with special national orders, and some details will not be disclosed to the public.

Most of the funding of the project will come from Russia's military budget. It is estimated that Russia's military budget will reach 70 billion US dollars in 2018, which is the highest in modern Russian history.

Most of the plan will be invested in the design of special materials based on technical textiles, which will be used for the production of military clothing and other military equipment for Russian soldiers, including those currently deployed in Syria and other Middle Eastern countries.

However, according to sources close to the Russian Ministry of defense, the names of the companies involved in the project have not yet been disclosed. They will be Russia's largest producers of technical textiles and nonwovens, which have been to the west before.

The project also includes accelerating R & D activities in the industry, involving Russia's leading research institutes in the field of technical textiles and nonwovens, as well as leading technology universities, such as Moscow national Bauman Institute of technology. This is Russia's oldest and largest university of science and technology, and since 1990s, it has been engaged in R & D activities in the field of nonwovens and technical textiles.

According to Denis Manturov, an official spokesman for Russia's minister of industry and trade, most of these R & D activities will be classified.

As part of these plans, the Russian Ministry of defense plans to attract some well-known Western experts in the field of Technology Textiles to participate in the R & D activities of the industry.

In recent years, Russian military and defense industries have significantly increased demand for nonwovens and technical textiles, which is also due to the militarization in the country.

It provided tremendous impetus and created conditions for further growth after the economic stagnation, which was caused by the country's economic crisis and Western sanctions.

According to Denis Manturov, Russia's defense industry has become one of the largest consumers of Russian nonwoven and technical textiles in recent years. Its share in the overall consumption structure is expected to continue to grow at a higher rate in the next few years.

At the same time, Russia's leading manufacturers have welcomed the new national initiative, hoping that its implementation may lead to additional profits, which is particularly important because the growth of medical, engineering and other sectors in the Russian economy has continued to stagnate, and so far, these areas have occupied most of the consumption of technical textiles and nonwovens in Russia.

Before 2017, the Russian technology textile industry experienced a serious shortage of funds, which led to a sharp decline in the attractiveness of the industry. However, due to the growing demand for defense industry, this situation is likely to increase significantly in the coming years.

At the same time, according to the Russian textile and light industry producers association, the public association is the alliance of Russia's leading technology textiles and nonwovens producers. The government has decided to invest in the development of technical textiles to meet national defense needs. This will be the latest technology announced by the United States to invest $75 million for military purposes, textiles and nonwovens.
