The scale will reach a new high in 2016, an increase of 7% to 7 billion pounds over the same period.

According to Mintel's latest report, fashion trends are a major reason for the growth of the market. 50% of British consumers have bought sports footwear and equipment for the purpose of "non sports purposes" in the past 12 months.

The report shows that the fitness trend is stimulating the sportswear market.

However, 50% of consumers did not buy sportswear for sports, of which 34% thought buying sportswear for fashion and 11% for buying support from celebrities.

Fashion drives sports and leisure

Under the influence of sportswear on fashion, the "sports leisure" (athleisure) style has emerged, and many high-end brand sports and leisure products have developed rapidly.

Fast fashion Zara, Mango and H&M have launched the sports and leisure product line, and many celebrities have launched such products, including singer Beyonce, sports star Zlatan Ibrahimovic and so on.

Samantha Dover, a retail analyst at Mintel, said the sporting goods market is developing rapidly.

With the increasing health awareness of young consumers and the popularity of leisure styles, recreational sportswear is becoming the main category of sporting goods market.

More and more competitors are coming in and the market will become more crowded.

Apart from fashion factors, the rise of sports craze has also stimulated the growth of sportswear sales.

According to Mintel, 53% of British consumers exercise at least once a week, 16% of them exercise five times a week or more.

Young consumers are the main players of sports goods in the past year. 75% of the 16-24 year olds have bought new sporting goods.

This year's Olympic Games and Paralympic Games will further stimulate sales of sporting goods, such as sporting goods sales increased by 7% during the 2012 London Olympics.

Clothing and equipment for Olympic athletes are provided, and sales will increase under the effect of athletes.

Besides official goods, the sales of regular sportswear will also increase as consumers are affected by the Olympic heat.

Sportswear is still a big consumer.

It is understood that 54% of the British people in the past 12 months bought sports apparel, sports shoes, sports equipment and accessories, of which 59% of male consumers purchase these products.

In addition, 55% of men bought sportswear for "non sports purposes".

Of the consumers who buy sports equipment, 45% are bought for running.

The sales volume of sports shoes is also increasing. In 2016, sales of sports shoes will account for 34% of sporting goods. Clothing is still a big head, accounting for 59% of sales.

Sports related beauty products are also selling well, and 37% of consumers are willing to buy or have purchased related beauty products, such as reducing the flush of cream.

25-34 year old consumers are interested in these beauty products. 23% of them have already bought these products and 34% are willing to buy them.

Perhaps the next trend is sports beauty products.
