Australian Garment Factory Workers Are Afraid Of Swallowing Their Jobs
FWO, Australia's fair working committee, recently announced that it will launch a two-year investigation in Australia for the exploitation of garment factory workers.
It is reported that most of these garment workers come from Asian Chinese and Chinese, and are employed in Australian clothing companies. But what's frightening is that they basically work in their homes.
Fairwork said they were worried about that.
Garment workers
The brutal exploitation of clothing companies, including the deduction of wages, no benefits, and the extremely poor working environment.
Australian radio quoted the Australian fair working committee news that the Chinese from Asia worked for Australian clothing companies for a long time. Most of them were sewing clothes at home, or were called "outsourcing workers". They had very low wages and no fringe benefits.
Some even lower to an average of only 3 Australian dollars per hour, almost impossible to live low wages.
Lynda McAlary Smith, director of Fairwork monitoring and education, points out that the first language of these garment workers is not English, because most of them are "outsourcing workers", so their working place may be a garage or an idle room or at home.
In this case, their working environment may be very bad, and it is also very difficult to get the right benefits.
In addition, Fairwork said that they will work closely with all levels of immigration agencies and immigration resource centers in Australia, and support some groups representing the interests of migrant workers, encouraging those exploited outsourced workers to voice their voices and protect their legitimate rights and interests.
At the same time, the committee will have more than 1000 families.
Australia
Clothing retailers, wholesalers and distributors investigate whether there are any illegal activities in the operation of these enterprises.
But in fact, many Chinese workers from Asia worry about losing their jobs after the announcement, and choose to swallow them.
According to the information obtained by Australian Textile Clothing and Footwear Union, thousands of outsourced clothing workers pay from their employers less than 3 Australian dollars, and no sick leave.
wages
Pensions and insurance. Some even work overtime day and night. It's really pathetic.
ATCFU's national secretary general, Michele O 'Neil, supports Fairwork's upcoming nationwide investigation into the clothing industry.
He said, "the long term serious exploitation of migrant workers is a secret known to everyone in the clothing industry. The trade unions have exposed this phenomenon many times, but it has not attracted enough attention.
Therefore, the Fairwork will turn its attention to the field of garment manufacturing. This is a very meaningful move. "
Michele O 'Neil also said that immigrant clothing workers were too low paid and often worked overtime, and they were always afraid of their employers' dismissal because of their persistent injustice.
She said, "many clothing workers are afraid of losing their jobs after they lose their jobs. They have to grind their teeth to endure the wages of similar slaves and poor working conditions.
