Analysis Of Cotton Output And Past Years Data In 2015

The National Bureau of Statistics announced recently

Output data showed that in 2015, the total output of cotton in China was 5 million 605 thousand tons, a decrease of 574 thousand tons compared with 2014, a decrease of 9.3%.

"The decrease in cotton production is mainly due to the decrease in planting area."

According to Hou Rui, Senior Statistician of the rural Bureau of the National Bureau of statistics, the cotton planting area in China was 3 million 799 thousand hectares (56 million 984 thousand mu) last year, a decrease of 423 thousand and 400 hectares compared with that in 2014, a decrease of 10% over the same period last year, resulting in a reduction of 619 thousand tons in terms of planting area.

According to different regions, the main cotton areas of the Yellow River and Yangtze River decreased more last year.

Among them,

The sowing area of cotton decreased by 182 thousand and 900 hectares, down 14.8% from the same period last year. The output per unit area decreased by 30.5 kg (2.03 kg / mu) per hectare, and decreased by 2.8%; the total output of cotton decreased by 231 thousand tons, and decreased by 17.2%.

The area of cotton in the drainage area decreased by 170 thousand and 500 hectares, decreased by 17.8%; the output per unit area increased by 63.3 kilograms per hectare, increased by 5.8%, and the output decreased by 136 thousand tons, down 13.1%.

In 2015, Xinjiang's cotton output was 3 million 503 thousand tons, accounting for 62.5% of the total in the country, 3 percentage points higher than that in 2014, and the regional superiority of cotton production was further enhanced.

Among them, Xinjiang cotton sown area accounted for half of the country, an increase of 3.9 percentage points over the previous year, per unit area of 1839.6 kg per hectare, higher than the national average of 24.6%.

Statistics show that in 2012, China's cotton output reached 6 million 840 thousand tons, an increase of 2.2 times compared to 1978, the peak in recent years, and cotton production has declined since then.
