Hanesbrands Sales Decline Blamed For Low Market Traffic

Sales of underwear, sports, direct selling and four major international sectors fell by 5.9%, 1.3%, 8.9% and 16.8%, respectively. The company blamed the decline in revenue in the US mall on the decline in its core underwear and sports sector revenue.

On Thursday, Hanesbrands Inc. rival Victoria's s Secret, Vitoria's Secret parent L Brands Inc. (NYSE:LB), also announced an unexpectedly slipped 2016 January performance. The company pointed out that the half year promotion of the secret "Victoria" s of Vitoria was moved from January to December, and the brand had a 4% decline in the same store sales in the first four weeks to January 30th (less than the market expected increase of 3.3%), which offset the growth of the market and the growth rate of the company (better than the market expected increase of 1.1%). Therefore, the overall sales of the same store decreased by 2% annually, even if the impact of the big promotion change was only 1%, which was far behind the 2.4% increase expected by the market.
