With the ban on cotton exports, Bangladesh is planning to buy cotton from African countries.

Bangladesh Minister of Commerce Faruk Khan, speaking at Bangladesh cotton marketing and textile training activities, said Bangladesh is looking for opportunities to import low price but good quality African cotton.

Global demand for cotton has increased, but the world's second largest cotton producer, India, has banned cotton exports, so cotton spinning prices almost doubled in April to 90 cents / pound.

Cotton imports account for imports from India before India prohibits cotton exports.

The People's Republic of Bangladesh

15% of imports are now being disturbed by Bangladesh spinning mills.

According to Abdul Hay Shack, President of Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (Abdul Hai Sarker), they are now considering Subsaharan African countries to replace India as Bangladesh's main supplier of cotton.

Bangladesh consumes about 4 million bales of cotton a year, and sub Saharan Africa can provide a large portion of Bangladesh's cotton consumption.

However, cotton pportation needs time. This is a problem facing Bangladesh. For now, the raw materials of these countries will arrive in Bangladesh for even a few months.

In view of this situation, Bangladesh spinning enterprises / importers have asked Saharan African countries to establish buffer stocks at Bangladesh ports, which will help raw materials enter the circulation channel in 2-3 days.
