In 1953, it was adjusted by the Southern China Academy of Arts, the South China Academy of Arts and the fine arts of Guangxi art school, and its original location was in Wuchang, Hubei.

In 1958, the central and southern Academy of fine arts moved to Guangzhou, renamed Guangzhou Acmdemy of Fine Arts and began to recruit undergraduates.

In 1981, he was granted the right of granting master's degree. He was one of the first batch of national master's degree awarding powers in the country. In 1987, he began to recruit foreign and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students. In 2005, he was approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council to set up a pilot unit for master of Arts (MFA).

"Art design" and "painting" are famous brand majors in Guangdong province. They are also the second and third batch of higher education characteristics established by the Ministry of education.

Watercolor, sculpture creation, creation (oil painting) and other 3 courses were rated as provincial quality courses.

The College Library and three art collections contain over 1 pieces of art treasures and contemporary masterpieces of various dynasties since the Tang Dynasty.

In May 2009, the sixteenth Guangzhou Asian Games overall visual design research center was listed in our hospital. So far, more than 10 design works have been successfully completed: mascot, badge, sports icon, Torch Relay logo, Asian Games medal, badge badge and so on.

Exchanges and cooperation between more than 20 art institutions in more than 10 countries and regions have been established.

The Institute plans to select outstanding students to exchange and study abroad, to select outstanding teachers to go abroad for further study, to communicate or to engage in academic research, and to invite experts from above countries and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan to teach, lecture and carry out project cooperation in our institute.
