Woman'S Fragment: Reconciliation With "Loss"
"Women's fragments" is a pure feminist film. It puts the biggest fear of women - losing their children on the screen, and constantly asks with the passage of time: how can a mother who has to say goodbye to her blood get through such difficulties? As the first step of Hungarian director kenel mudluzo's development in Hollywood, the woman's fragment shows his full writing and scheduling skills, and finds a perfect balance between the delicate slowness of European humanistic films and the narrative rhythm more familiar to North American audiences.
In the early years, mudluzo used his films made in his home country to frighten the audience at Cannes Film Festival. Whether it was the white God in which hundreds of stray dogs were running on the streets of Budapest, or the adrenaline surging car chase in guard of Jupiter, his distinctive personal style has been fully displayed. He thought that he would be able to make mainstream commercial films in the United States, but after years of polishing, he finally produced a family drama that returned to daily life.
No matter from what angle, the woman's fragment is a brilliant video text. At the beginning of the movie, the heroine Martha is boldly used for 30 minutes to show the process of giving birth at home. The hardships of pregnancy in September and the physical pain on the night of giving birth are magnified infinitely by the camera. The audience unconsciously creates a deeper emotional bond with the characters in the process of holding their breath. The empathy between the viewer and the character is not only projected on Martha, the young mother, but also on all the characters who appear in this scene: EVA, the midwife, and Sean, her husband. This also paves the way for the subsequent conflicts of the film. The baby who came to the world in a hurry died in her mother's arms for unknown reasons. EVA was sued by the grieving family and became the object of verbal criticism. Sean also didn't survive the endless emotional turbulence in the end, leaving the figure of farewell. At the beginning of the film, the real to eye popping production drama, all the characters are presented equally, and their reactions to emergencies, whether temporary relief or instant panic, make these characters extremely vivid and three-dimensional.
The current film and television works, whenever it involves some "law and morality", must be divided into success or failure. However, in the narrative logic of black and white, the woman's fragment tries to play down the lawsuit caused by the loss of her son as much as possible. The most impressive part of the film is how Martha and her family members face the "loss" and how they struggle to face up to face up to the process of treatment. The style setting of this thin water depth flow has to be attributed to the European origin of the film. Mudluzzo even uses his long tracking lens, which he is good at. The camera moves like a ghost in the interior space, capturing the nuances between everyone's eyes and eyebrows.
On the other hand, we should not ignore that the film is the product of the North American production system, so it tends to be closer to the public interest in narrative rhythm and conclusion setting. Under the perfect performance, the empathy between the audience and the role is almost as easy as a piece of cake. The male characters in the film are portrayed as slightly weak, which makes it more complicated and difficult to make a simple judgment on their choice.
It can be said that mudluzo has done a great job in the fragment of women. Starting from a very moral guiding story setting, he allows the audience to slow down the pace of "reaching a conclusion" through his impenetrable writing. In front of the screen, we are more and more eager to know what happened, rather than the simple results. Just like the apple that Martha began to cultivate after she lost her son, just sprouting apple seeds can make her harvest tears of joy before they grow into luxuriant fruits and vegetables. And her final settlement with "loss" also seems to be the closure of a bridge under construction. It needs hard observation to find out the changes in the day and night. Mudluzzo used more than two hours to provide us with a certain observation of the incision. He let a woman with injuries all over her body, and finally pieced together her broken body.
