The Ministry of labour and health and welfare (MHLW) finally passed the "household product harmful substances control act".

According to the bill, Japan has increased the restrictions on azo dyes, and has modified the detection methods of formaldehyde, three phenyl tin compounds and three butyltin compounds in household products.

The case will come into effect on April 1, 2016.

Unlike Japan's previous restrictions on azo dyes, the final adoption of the proposal will be exported to Japan.

Details of the proposed amendments are as follows:

1, 24 kinds of azo dyes are classified as harmful pollutants and controlled.

It is recommended to detect by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS), and the content of azo dye should not exceed 30 g/g.

Products that need to be tested for azo dyes are as follows:

Textiles: diapers, diaper sets,

Underwear

,

pajamas

Gloves, socks, middle

clothing

, coat, hat, bedding, floor coverings, tablecloth, collar ornament, handkerchief, towel, bathroom mat and related products;

Leather and fur products: underwear, gloves, intermediate clothing, coats, hats and floor coverings.

2, the formaldehyde content detection method in household products is revised.

After revision, acetic acid and ammonium acetate solution are used in some test procedures instead of pure water used before.

3. To modify the detection methods of three phenyl tin compounds and three butyltin compounds in household products, it is recommended to use gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) instead of the previous test methods.
