The little editor of the net introduced an exclusive interview with Liu Yang: I am a professional fashion designer.

When he was a child, he showed his love and talent for clothes. He entered the Guangzhou Academy of fine arts for 84 years and majored in fashion design. After entering the peak period of 10 years of creation, no matter in 1990, he successfully held his personal first conference in Guangzhou, "Liu Yang's clothing world". The first bold and sexy costumes were displayed on the stage of Chinese mainland costumes. The design of 100 sets of avant-garde costumes for the closing ceremony of the East Asian Games was well received. In 1994, the first large-scale men's wear conference in China was held, opening up a new era of Chinese men's wear performance.

Or the "China top ten fashion designer" won the Golden Crown Award and the "Oscar" Golden Summit Award in the clothing industry. He has established an unparalleled position in the Chinese garment industry.

However, at the peak of his career, he gave up a lot of temptation to go to the United States for further education.

EFU: before 2000, many of your classic experiences are well known, and I still want to ask you this question that has been asked many times: what kind of opportunity can you choose to go to the US for further study at the peak of your career? In many people's opinion, you should catch up with success and grasp this very rare opportunity.

Liu Yang: Yes, actually this is a very old problem, which is often asked by the media and friends.

Logically speaking, 98 years is a bumper harvest for my career. We should seize the opportunity and gain fame and fortune. Indeed, there are many opportunities. Many enterprises seem to feel your commercial value and throw your olive branches to you.

It's really easy to lose yourself in that atmosphere.

No designer doesn't want to be successful, but I think it's important to have a clear understanding of oneself and rational choice.

In those days, people worshipped you and called you a master. But you have to be sober yourself.

So I resolutely abandoned fame and fortune and the life of a cup of light, and chose to study abroad and live in peace.

Because I have a dream in my heart, that is to become an excellent professional international fashion designer.

The growth of a great master takes years to precipitate. We should not be afraid of giving money and time, but we are not afraid of loneliness.

In those days, flowers, applause, admiration and worship were all owned by me. I should say I was lucky.

Many designers are also talented and hardworking, and have no dreams come true. I am grateful. I hope that one day, I have my own academic works, and I can bring a group of students to do well in order to leave some positive energy for young designers in China.

EFU: the student days are always the best. Can you talk about your alma mater, the Guangzhou Academy of fine arts, including some impressive things when you were at school?

Liu Yang: I really remember many things when I was a student. I remember when I was in University, I had gone through mountains and waters and carried my own broken picture clip. I looked at dim sum and wine and went to Beijing to teach. My teacher saw two works and let me go back to paint as an avocation, which hit me very hard at that time.

It was at the time of the sandstorm in Beijing. In order to save 10 Fen of the bus fare, a man rubbed into the sand's eyes and walked dozens of miles. He was puzzled by the lonely street lamp. He really didn't know where the road was.

For the first time, I really felt like a drop in the ocean.

The University also has many interesting things. My clothes and hairstyle are the first talk in school.

Whenever school starts, the first thing to talk about is what kind of hair Liu Yang has left. What kind of clothes are he wearing? What perfume has been put on? Even male students are shouting "worshiping foreigners and foreigners" on the dormitory floor. I am really speechless and even feel ridiculous! But my mentor also criticizes me seriously, "too avant-garde, too fashionable". I mumble in my mouth, "I do not know what to do in design."

As a matter of fact, when I was hired as a alma mater Professor today, I finally felt the recognition and praise of my alma mater for many years.

Here I would like to mention two teachers who have profound influence on me: one is Professor Wang Shouzhi, a famous Chinese scholar, who first introduced the history of Western twentieth Century clothing to the Chinese design community.

The Western costume history has given me great interest and opened the door to Western costume aesthetics design. Indeed, Professor Wang Shouzhi's class has suddenly opened my mind.

I made great efforts to make a piece of work by others. I had to make ten pieces, so that I could not afford to buy any paper to buy cloth. When the students told professor Wang Shouzhi, he gave me twenty yuan to give me a meal ticket and told me to pay attention to the body.

Another is Professor Chen Shaofeng, who teaches Chinese art history. The broad and profound culture of ancient China also fascinated me, and let me see the precipitation of Chinese design aesthetics, which made me start thinking in design.

He also gave me a lot of support in my life.

These two mentor, in my university, can be said to be a very important enlightenment teacher. They put me in the fashion design with an ideal wing, and I am grateful.

EFU: in the Chinese family, many parents will pave the way for their children's future development or arrange their children's future. Has your first designer's dream encountered such a happy worry?

Liu Yang: Yes, my mother supports it and my father is against it.

My father always wanted me to become a great painter and a brilliant father. After all, my grandfather was a painter. Inheritance is the basic of family education in China. At that time, people had no conception of costume design. Tailors were the unified terms for this industry.

So when I was admitted to the first fashion design major in Guangzhou and America, he felt that the boy did not make a living in his daughter's life, so my father and I had no communication for almost half a year.

It was not until later that I succeeded that he turned around and felt that it was more meaningful for me to choose to be a fashion designer than to be a painter. I was very proud of me.

EFU: I have looked at the media interviews you have received before. You have said that in the face of many social titles and honorary status, you most want to be introduced as a fashion designer. Can you understand that this title is the most special for you?

Liu Yang: Yes, at that time, I met some friends in Hongkong or abroad, and realized that fashion designers in foreign countries were a desirable career and had a very high position in the world.

So I had a dream at that time, and I must let everyone know that the fashion designer is not a tailor, but a star. It is a job that everyone envied.

This is why I have been appearing in front of people with all kinds of avant-garde images since the beginning of my debut. This has made me more determined to change the Chinese view of fashion designers in the past.

So the name of "fashion designer" is very special and meaningful to me.

To a certain extent, I also admit that the media said, "because Liu Yang's appearance has affected a young generation of Chinese fashion designers, filling the gap between stars and tailors."

Strictly speaking, I prefer you to call me a fashion designer.

I have always thought that there are not many real masters in an era, many of which are given by media and public opinion.

Now I often use a humble attitude to see the works of masters, to see his good side, to analyze the shortcomings, rather than to worship the mentality of slaves.

I have always taught my students not to blindly worship the masters, but to seriously appreciate their essence and dross, and to eliminate the false and retain the true.

EFU: you once said, "when you create your life, your work will have a soul". Is this your attitude towards design? How do you interpret this sentence?

Liu Yang: if you use your life attitude to create your work, this work can touch you and move others.

Some people think that it is too heavy to bear the word "life". It is just a fashion creation, but this is exactly what I have learned throughout my career.

If you don't do this attitude, you will never succeed.

Once I was making a big press conference on the famous children's clothing brand "rabbit logo", I suddenly had a serious illness and needed four hours' surgery. Because of my pain in throat surgery for second days, I couldn't speak and pressed for time. I could only use hand gestures and assistants to exchange and update the fine print of clothing.

One morning, the doctors were surprised, didn't they want to die? "Attitude decides success", I agree with you! This is also my attitude towards career.

Should the new generation of fashion designers rectify their work attitude?

EFU: you have been the first male photo album of China, Liu Yang impression. You have been a screenwriter, starring in TV dramas, taking music MTV, and engaging in home and interior design.

I have done many cross-border activities. What are these benefits for your designer?

Liu Yang: I always thought that art would die without crossing the border.

So from the beginning, I have been trying to cross the border.

I think a fashion designer should be a commercial artist. His inspiration should come from his life. A designer can not only complete your design mission with only a pair of scissors, a ruler, a piece of paper and a pen. You must have some knowledge of literature, art, painting, music, film, makeup, ergonomics, philosophy and even political economics as your accomplishment.

Design itself is philosophy.

Liu Yang: I didn't waste time.

Today's mentor example

In 90s, Liu Yang exclaimed China with avant-garde images and bold works. He was one of the 50 people who influenced China's clothing industry.

How big a person is and how much social responsibility he bears.

Beginning in 2007, Liu Yang began to appear in the jury of the major fashion events. As he said, after having a certain social position, he felt that it was his duty to do something. Over the years, he has been committed to promoting the progress and maturity of the designer's strength. As chairman of the Guangdong Fashion Designers Association, he has actively built up a platform for the docking of local designers and enterprises, so that more designers can quickly integrate into the industry and promote communication between designers after graduation.

He needs a good bole, and he uses his rich experience and a sense of mission to explain what is the true professional accomplishment and the power of example.
