Holland Designer Martha: "I Love Design And Love The Factory".
05 years after the establishment of a production plant in Wuxi, Martha It was decided to stay in China to carry out its own design and to create Ask4Me Group, a blink of an eye in China for 8 years. Why did the Holland girl decide to stay in China? In the 2013 Shenzhen international home accessories exhibition, Martha brought the stereoscopic space decoration show to the audience. The simple adornment, after Martha's careful arrangement, showed unique charm in the space.
When Martha was a little girl, he enjoyed watching beautiful things, from the new artistic style lantern of Paris subway station to the design of Aston Martin's sports car. All kinds of designs deeply attracted her. Martha, who was full of design pictures, began to try to figure out what he understood. But she was not satisfied, unless she could clearly figure out the structure of these things and how they were produced. This feeling made Martha specialize in industrial design engineering and received his master's degree in 2002.
about Design
In the eyes of designers, design should be a language or a technique. For Martha, industrial design is different from other designs such as architectural design and interior design, but it is similar in creative process, such as concept, perspective, final design and production and execution design. The details and local performance of these steps are different. These are actually the basis for designers to show their hands and work as producers.
Like other designs, designers of industrial design also have to face the conflict between product design and user experience. Some products are very novel, but they may not get good user experience. In order to balance these contradictions, Martha usually looks for a compromise solution. If this is not enough, she will reexamine every detail of the request, weigh the importance of every aspect, find the positive and negative sides of each step, and finally make a balanced decision.
about Ask4Me Group
Martha said: "the development of our product is from the beginning of design concept to the end of mass production. I divide the process into several steps. Each step has a clear start and corresponding completion steps. This allows our customers to choose what they need most from these steps. This allows us to provide fully personalized services to any client, whether or not they simply need conceptual innovation, product design, production, or the whole whole process. "
Speaking of why they choose to implement the product ideas of overseas customers in China, Martha said that the customers they serve have one thing in common -- that is, they want to make production in China. Because the initial form is that customers usually carry out product research and development in their own countries, and then give the design to Chinese manufacturers, but this is just a bad start. Because factories are difficult to produce according to design requirements, it is difficult to communicate with foreign designers at the same time. But because Ask4Me Group is designed in China, it can be easier to communicate with factories at the very beginning, and it also allows them to integrate into the western design earlier to avoid subsequent problems.
The domestic industrial design is different from the industrial design abroad, and Martha thinks that the difference is mainly that the products abroad are mostly developed on the basis of brand. They have a very clear positioning and match the value of the company. In China, most products are based on replacement processing, which means they do not have a clear direction. In this case, the product can be fully implemented without soul. International consumers are aware that this situation is growing and it is more difficult for OEM to achieve this requirement. That's why Martha came to help them.
"My research and development is from product processing to final product. I have found that if I complete these designs in China, it means that I will be closer to the production areas of these products so as to better understand the production process of these products, which is perfect for designers. Speaking of why he chose to stay in China, Martha gave this answer, perhaps this is the ideal state as an industrial designer.
