Can Environmental Hormones Be Poisoned?
According to reports, following the release of the "fashion poison - the global clothing brand's China water pollution survey" last month, the latest findings of the Greenpeace organization, the international environmental protection agency, are reported.
In August 23rd, its report said that it included well-known brands.
Adidas
Lining and other clothing products contain "environmental hormone" - "nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether (NPE)".
Greenpeace requires these brands to immediately commit themselves to eliminating and eliminating toxic and harmful substances that are used and discharged in their supply chain.
In the month of 4~5 this year, Greenpeace said it purchased 78 samples of 15 clothing brands in 18 countries, including China, the United Kingdom and Argentina, including sportswear, casual wear and footwear.
In the test, 14 of the 15 clothing brands were found to be in question, involving many well-known brands both at home and abroad. Among the 78 samples, 52 samples contained one name.
Nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether
The substance referred to in English is NPE.
Zhang Kai, director of Greenpeace pollution and control project, introduced the harm of NPE as a chemical agent at the press conference. "NPE is widely used in printing and dyeing and cleaning processes in the textile industry.
In addition to the textile industry, NPE can also be used as surfactants and detergents.
Once NPE enters the environment, it will quickly decompose into stronger toxicity.
Environmental hormone
NP, that is, nonylphenol.
Zhang Kai explained that NP is the world's recognized environmental hormone.
Research shows that even if the concentration of this substance is low, it is also very dangerous.
NPE has durability and bioaccumulation.
That is to say, once it is discharged into the environment, it will last for a long time, and it can enter the food chain and enlarge it step by step through the food chain.
At the same time, it also has simulation.
estrogen
Therefore, once it enters the organism, it will affect the normal reproduction and development of the organism, which can lead to a decrease in the number of sperm in human beings.
In August 24th, the Li Ning Co issued a statement that all its products comply with EU standards.
In July 22nd, the company sent the sample products to SGS and CTI, the international authoritative testing institutions, for NPE content detection, and the results were in line with the EU REACH standard.
In recent years, Greenpeace has released its sampling product inspection report, including Lining and other clothing brands. The NPE content of 4 Lining products was 680 mg / kg, 9.8 mg / kg, 7.1 mg / kg, 2.8 mg / kg respectively, all in line with the EU REACH standard.
As for the Li Ning Co's initiative to make a statement, Greenpeace expressed its affirmation in a statement issued on the 24 th.
However, the organization believes that Li Ning Co's commitment does not reflect the determination of the Li Ning Co to completely eliminate toxic and harmful substances, and lacks corresponding measures to ensure that its "detoxification" process is open and pparent.
Adidas also said in a statement: "the test results mentioned in the 23 day report of the organization indicate that our NPE concentration is far below the target value, which proves that our policy is effective.
Most of the Adidas products tested did not detect NPE (5 of the 9 samples tested did not contain NPE).
Adidas has been sticking to the NPE concentration of 100ppm. "
In a written reply, Nike said that according to the report of the organization, the level of NPEO detected in clothing "has no known direct health threat to wearers".
But because of its potential environmental impact, Nike group has included it in the latest list of restricted items and production restriction items.
Recently, a number of stores in Shenyang's Peng Da sports goods Plaza, BELLE sporting goods sales Plaza and other sporting goods stores in Shenyang found that customers of Adidas and Lining's two brands sell in an endless stream.
For what NPE is, the people interviewed are not very clear.
A young man who picked Lining shoes said: "after all these years, I didn't see who had any problems.
Even if there is such a big brand content should be very low, right? "
Another woman who is picking products is not very clear about what NPE is, but it is better to believe that it is not credible or not.
It is understood that the brand detected by the organization includes NPE, Adidas, Lining, Nike, Calvin Klein, CONVERSE, G-Star RAW, H&M, Kappa, crocodile, Abercombie&Fitch, Puma, Ralph Lauren, UNIQLO and YOUNGOR.
Information from Greenpeace website shows that Puma, the famous sports brand, has promised to eliminate all toxic and harmful substances in its supply chain by 2020, and will make an open action plan within 8 weeks. Nike also promised not to stop using toxic substances shortly.
Liu Guozhen, deputy chief engineer of Shenyang chemical industry group, said that the application of NPE in textile production is very common and is often used as a surfactant.
Liu Guozhen introduced that NPE residues in textiles can be removed by washing and do not directly harm the human body, but excessive NPE residues may have adverse effects in the environment.
Wang Guosheng, vice president of the school of chemical engineering, Shenyang Chemical University, said that the EU and China's regulations are not consistent with regard to the use of NPE, and that the conversion of NPE into NP requires certain conditions. The specific harm of NP is yet to be verified.
Critics have pointed out that consumers need to know the difference between the EU standards of clothing and textiles and our national standard.
The NPE storm is not only exposed to the quality problems of the clothing industry. At present, there are some strict standards in the areas affecting the health of consumers. The quality standards of export products are relatively high, while the quality requirements of domestic products are low or even missing.
