Young Designer Paris Fashion Week

In November 2010, Professor Zhang Wenhui, associate professor of Clothing Institute of Wuhan Textile University, won the "SHIATZY CHEN most valuable cultural value award" in the Kaiser 2010 CCDC Fashion Design Invitational Competition sponsored by the China Fashion Association and hosted by the China Fashion Association and the new fashion international agency, and won the fashion exhibition opportunity to participate in Paris's "China in Paris Showroom".

From the moment of receiving the exhibition task, in just three months, Mr. Zhang Wenhui and his team worked overtime to produce nearly 36 sets of clothing, named "the night of the Forbidden City".

In March 1, 2011, he set off with his original costume to Paris.

As the first Chinese university teacher to attend the Paris international fashion week, Zhang Wenhui will demonstrate to the international community the unique charm of combining fashion with traditional Chinese culture.

Yesterday, the reporter interviewed Zhang Wenhui, who was all ready.

The art teacher was born into a fashion design major.

It was originally a fine art background, but Zhang Wenhui walked on the road of costume design.

From childhood, he liked art very much. When he was in primary school, he often drew pictures on textbooks, and never thought he would enter the field of costume design in the future.

In 1989, after graduating from normal universities, Zhang Wenhui entered a middle school and became an art teacher.

Because art classes were neglected in schools and often occupied by other teachers, Zhang Wenhui felt very unfulfilled.

So he felt that when he was young, he should go out for a rush.

In 1993, he was admitted to the Wuhan Textile University (now the Wuhan Textile Institute of Technology).

At first, he applied for the decoration profession, and because of quota restriction, he was pferred to the fashion design specialty, and began his career of costume design for nearly 20 years.

The most memorable experience for Zhang Wenhui is preparing for the "Dalian Cup" National Youth costume design competition in sophomore year.

In order to make a costume, Zhang Wenhui found a tailor in Huangshi, Hubei, to help.

He went to the master's house to make clothes during the day, and stayed at a friend's home in the evening. He often couldn't afford to take a bus to save money.

"At that time, I bought fabrics and made tailoring. Everything was done by myself. It was very hard."

In the end, Zhang Wenhui won the bronze medal in the competition and became the first university student to win the award.

Wandering between teachers and designers

In the eyes of ordinary people, there are inevitable conflicts between the two roles of teachers and fashion designers, but Zhang Wenhui thinks he can swim between them.

He likes teaching and educating people, and he can do some design life that can express his own thoughts. This is because he thinks about the value of life of a fashion designer.

After graduating from university in 1997, Zhang Wenhui stayed in the school to teach. After teaching for several years, he quit his job and went to Hong Kong Polytech University to pursue a master's degree in fashion and textiles design.

After his master's degree, he became the chief designer of luxury brand "Shanghai" in 2005.

But only two years later, he had a heart to heart.

It is not because there is no performance, but that he believes that in a luxury industry with a complete mode of operation, everything is only one part of the needs of the few rich people, and the pace of work is too fast, and the whole image of a machine can not be fully reflected in its own value.

In 2008, Zhang Wenhui chose to return to his alma mater to teach.

Once he returned to school, he used the clothing design concept brought back from outside to teach, which was greatly welcomed by students.

At the same time, he also instructed the students to take part in the design competition actively. It is also ingenious, that is, from this year on, the number of prizes awarded by the school's clothing students increased greatly.

"Pure fashion designers often consider the interests of the business, while being a teacher can impart the idea of clothing to students, and pass ten or ten to 100 students. I think this is the embodiment of the value of a fashion designer."

Enter Paris and want to become our own brand in the future.

For a long time, the exchanges and cooperation between fashion design schools and garment enterprises are not very close. Many enterprises think that the costume design in universities is too artistic, so they are reluctant to help teachers or students in universities to make their designs into ready-made clothes, and the strength of designers alone is often very laborious.

Zhang Wenhui felt very much about it.

"Often because there is no suitable enterprise to help with the production and production, the idea of giving up a certain design is generated.

This time, there are similar problems in clothing production to France.

Since last November, Mr. Zhang has been looking for cooperative enterprises in Wuhan. But after looking for more than a month, he found that local enterprises were not interested in originality. Not only did they not be willing to sponsor, but even factories that could make clothes were not contacted.

Seeing that the date of the exhibition is approaching, and the costume has not been set up, Zhang's idea of giving up several times has occurred in his mind.

"Later, the school gave me a lot of support and help, coupled with a sense of responsibility in my heart, clothing was made."

It is understood that Mr. Zhang has been pferred to a factory in Guangzhou to help. In addition, the school has provided 7 teachers and 20 students to the creative team. They worked together for a winter vacation and worked overtime all night. Finally, 36 sets of clothing were produced.

"This exhibition is all my own brand of clothing, and my future work focus may also be pferred to the construction and development of the brand, so as to spread the traditional Chinese style of clothing design that I have studied for so many years."
